When it comes to the in-depth historical book reviews on this blog, I follow a certain format. Below, you will find some information on how I structure my reviews.
- Book Information: This includes an image of the book and the publication information (title, author, publisher, ISBN/ASIN, format, genre, and price). The price will always reflect the price of the book at the time that book review is published.
- Summary: In addition to the book cover, I always include the publisher’s summary of the book.
- Historical Information: This is where I focus on the setting of the book. This includes the time period and location. I will always focus on one central point of history from the book. It could include a major event, fashion history, etc.
- Character Profile: For book reviews that feature real historical figures or famous literary characters, I have a section where I focus on the background information regarding that person or character. I share extra information for the reader.
- Dramatis Personae: This is where I incorporate a list of the major characters, explaining briefly who each person is.
- Dear Gentle Reader: Before I write the review, I will usually warn readers about explicit and graphic scenes in the book.
- Review: This is where I present my view of the book. I attempt to keep all of my reviews positive. I do not review books below two stars. Any books that receives one star will not receive a review at all. This means I thoroughly disliked the book or found major issues.
- Memorable Quote: This is where I share one or more poignant quotes from the book.
- Themes: This is the section where I focus on different themes that appeared in the book.
- Rating: The ratings will be between five and two stars. It includes: 5 stars, 4.5 stars, 4 stars, 3.5 stars, 3 stars, 2.5 stars, and 2 stars. I do not review books that have received lower than 2 stars.
- If you like this, you may enjoy: I will always give book or period drama recommendations based on the book being reviewed.
Bear in mind that not all reviews will have the same sections. The standard sections found in each review are: Book Information, Summary, Review, Memorable Quote, and Rating.
